Creating the Perfect Business Card

Thys Walters Business Card

So you are starting a new business. Marketing plan is finished; you have moved into your new office, the only thing left is your branding and the all important business card. Your business card may be the first thing a potential customer sees, so it must make some impact. Your business card is there to present a professional image of your company. In fact, this little card makes as much of an impression as your personal appearance.

Choose a card that matches your company appearance, business, industry and style. You don’t want shocking colored cartoon cards if you are a serious lawyer or funeral director. When crafting a design, start with the style that best supports the business image you wish to project. To get started here are five different card styles for you to consider:

Basic Cards. This is a card most often printed in black ink on plain white or cream stock. When utility is all you need, this is the card for you. It is a simple approach that can appeal to clients who would not be impressed by fancy designs. This is perfect for the people who just want the facts.

Picture Cards. This is exactly what the name says; this is a card with your face on whether it is a photograph, drawing or caricature. It helps the client remember you the next time he or she sees you. Images that represent a product or service can greatly help you communicate your business better than words. Having a little bit of color rather than just black or white often helps bring your attention to the picture and ultimately the card.

Tactile Cards. This is business cards created of material such as metal or wool, cards which are distinguished by how they feel. This type of card is considered more expensive than regular cards because they use nonstandard production processes such as the cuts. For some business this is the card to go with for instance if you are in the clothing or metal business.

Multipurpose cards. You can also use your business card as a promotion, coupon or advertisement. It may provide valuable information that the client may need. For example if you are running a great special you can have that promotion on the back of your card.

Outside-the-box-cards. This is a wildly original, extravagant presentation to draw extra attention. Using creativity your can mold your card to be anything. Usually there are no bounds to the creativity used and money spend. Some examples are cards made of chocolate or cards folded to make a little box.
